Cut the BS: Foundations of Business and Professional Writing

Cut the BS: Foundations of Business and Professional Writing

Regardless of your major in college or what kind of industry you’re in, you probably write all the time on the job. Whether it’s memos to senior executives, proposals to clients, or emails to colleagues, it is critical for your writing to be crisp, clear, effective, and free of BS. Your ultimate goal, as a business writer, is to get things done.

This class focuses on developing students’ oral and written communication skills in a business and professional setting, illuminating how clear, concise and concrete language is the best way to break through institutional paralysis, avoid misunderstandings and improve workplace relationships. Topics covered will include:

●      What to know before you write

●      How to organize ideas and generate content

●      How to “front load” your writing and eliminate fluff

●      How to clarify your writing

●      How to proofread and edit your content
