A Map of Earth: The Poetry of Place

A Map of Earth: The Poetry of Place

Who lives in Savannah and doesn't feel some pull to write about Spanish moss and oak trees? Where we live, or have lived, gets into our bones and courses through our blood. In his surfing memoir, Caught Inside, Daniel Duane writes of place, “I thought again about throwing language all over a scene, wondered if the emotional mystery of one’s response to a place doesn’t lie in the inchoate play ofpossible words, of felt meaning and poetries.” Poets and writers mine the emotional charge of our familiar landscapes to tell stories that resonate. In this workshop, we’ll explore poems of geography, road trip, birthplace, home, and more through example texts and writing prompts.
